The 3/4 goalkeeper pants have been coming over from the south of Europe for a number of years. These are trousers with legs that extend over the knee. A goalkeeper should always wear white socks. This looks very good and has more appeal than dark stockings. If the white stockings are washed immediately after the match, there is no problem. Shin guards A shin guard is not a goalkeeper-specific piece of equipment, but it is essential. Cutbacks are often made on this piece of equipment. A shame actually, because shin guards are supposed to perform a task that is almost mathematically impossible. Van Vlissingen tot Hoorn en van Katwijk tot Utrecht waren keepers in alle leeftijdsgroepen neergestreken op het complex van de v.v. Drechtstreek. Dit jaar waren ook de dames goed vertegenwoordigd. Zij hadden een aantal jeugdkeepers van profclubs meegenomen die samen met de trainers van V.V. Drechtstreek de groepen zouden leiden. Drechtstreek waren in het nieuw gestoken door Intertoys Dordrecht Centrum en Jeugdkeeper.nl. Zo vormden zij een mooie eenheid en waren goed herkenbaar. De dag zou uit 2 delen bestaan. Een ochtendgedeelte met specifieke training welke specifieke keepersproblemen behandelde en een middaggedeelte waarin spelvormen centraal stonden en waar de beste 6 doelmannen prijzen konden winnen. Tussendoor stond een demo op het programma van jeugdkeepers van NAC, Willem II en RKC / Den Bosch. Het enthousiasme op de tribune was enorm tijdens deze demonstratie. De dag werd goed bezocht door ouders en belangstellenden. Scouts en keeperstrainers van Feyenoord, Dordrecht en PSV kwamen een kijkje nemen. Ook oud profkeepers als Oscar Moens zijn gespot. Tussendoor hebben alle keepers en trainers een goede lunch voorgeschoteld gekregen, waarbij vermeld moet worden dat de lunch voor de deelnemers gesponsord was door de C1000, AH en De Heerlijkheid. Na afloop van het middaggedeelte hebben alle deelnemers certificaten ontvangen en werd de gratis loterij gehouden. Kort nadat DES door interne problemen had besloten zelfstandig te worden, staakte de Sportbond hun handbalactiviteiten. Bij de afscheiding had DES’72 enkel één heren- en één damesteam. Al voor het begin van de nieuwe competitie waren dit er in totaal zes. Mede doordat Papendrecht een groeigemeente was, kwam ook de jeugdafdeling snel van de grond. De trainingen werden aanvankelijk gehouden op het terrein van de ijsclub, de wedstrijden in de in 1969 gebouwde sporthal De Donck. Al snel verscheen de behoefte aan een eigen veld. Op verzoek werd het ‘Zwarte Veldje’ toegewezen, naast de voormalige Comeniusschool. Ondanks de slechte kwaliteit van dit veld en het gebrek aan een eigen kantine was dit een unieke situatie. DES was in de regio Rotterdam de eerste vereniging met een zevenhandbalveld. Bijna alle andere verenigingen speelden nog elfhandbal op voetbalvelden. De heren- en damesteams van DES begonnen in de alleronderste divisie en werden jaren achter elkaar kampioen. De gemeente Papendrecht opperde een nieuw veld aan te leggen op Sportpark Oostpolder, maar koos in overleg met DES voor een locatie achter de Peltserflat. Al die tijd had DES geen eigen kantine en moest voor omkleden, consumpties en bijeenkomsten uitwijken naar andere gebouwen. In het begin van de jaren ’80 kwam hier verandering in. Samen bouwden de leden van DES hun eigen kantine en werden er twee velden aangelegd. Eén ervan is, tot grote spijt achteraf, gegeven aan de gezamenlijke rolschaatsverenigingen. DES bleef maar groeien en is één van de vier grootste verenigingen van de regio geweest. Het 200ste lid werd zelfs begroet. Dit aantal is later weer afgenomen, maar nog altijd minder snel dan het landelijk handballend gemiddelde. Handbalvereniging DES ’72 gaat dus al een flink aantal jaren mee en heeft dit bereikt door hun naam eer aan te doen. Zowel in competitieverband als binnen de vereniging.
